History
of Caponata
Many
years ago, in the tiny mountain town of Avery, Idaho -- Mama
Nano and her friends would gather together at the local community
center to create this tasty treat by the barrel full.
Avery folks used the sauce with crackers, appetizers, salads,
pastas and burgers. Everyone had their own preferences
of course, so as the pots were filled according to taste, the
resulting flavors were many and varied. Mama Nano's own
recipe contains over 20 ingredients!
In recent years, friends and family have
been enjoying Nano's cooking by the pint-full, with
delighted comments and sometimes funny stories coming back.
One friend left hers on the kitchen counter, only to return
soon after to find just the empty jar and a spoon!
So, feeling sorry for her friend, Nano then gave her 'two'
jars... with the suggestion that one of them be hidden safely
in her car. Well, you might guess what happened next.
Yup, Frank found both of them... and they were done for.. both
in the same day!
Encouraged by these experiences, Nano decided
to try her hand at marketing, and 'Mama Nano's Caponata' debuted
on July 15th, 2001 at the Kelso farmer's market..... and as the
saying goes.. the rest is 'history'.
